Call for Abstracts: 10th National PHE Conference

Participants pose for the traditional “class photo” during the 9th National PHE Conference in October 2024, Iloilo City.

Join us in the 10th National PHE Conference themed “Equity and Sustainability in Focus: 20 Years of Transformative PHE” on October 8–10, 2025, in Metro Manila (hybrid).

Conference Background

As the PHE Network celebrates its 23rd year, we spotlight how PHE initiatives have transformed national and local economies, created jobs, built resilience and improved the lives of the most vulnerable and remote populations, advancing efforts to reduce poverty and inequalities.

This year’s theme underscores the importance of embedding sustainability into the programming of development work—ensuring equity remains central, especially when addressing the needs of marginalized communities. The integrated PHE approach emphasizes inclusive outreach and engagement strategies that empower key stakeholders to co-develop practical and impactful solutions. Taking sustainability as the best indicator of program success and its value in supporting development, we pay attention to results that show how development goals meet the needs of the present without compromising the status of future generations.

But the questions remain: Are organizations, their allies and the communities they serve prepared to address the challenges of building equitable social and economic environments? What strategies and resources are needed to achieve a just and sustainable world? We invite abstracts that explore these pressing questions and propose or present actionable strategies for achieving equitable and sustainable development.

We specifically invite thought leaders, academics and practitioners to submit abstracts for the 10th National PHE Conference. Priority will be given to submissions from the youth and those that highlight youth empowerment. We welcome submissions that address any of the following sub-themes or related topics:

  • PHE best practices focused on navigating climate resilience, equity, and environmental sustainability, including but not limited to initiatives, best practices and lessons learned on implementation, such as the use of PHE baselines in the assessment of socio-economic and environmental status, as well as risks and hazards posed by climate change impacts on access to health and ecosystem services.
  • PHE best practices in Asia and Africa, including, but not limited to, actions that are community-based or sector-focused—applying the PHE approach that is replicable and scalable.
  • Applying PHE in institutional frameworks to accelerate investments and policy reforms, including, but not limited to, experience-based measures to sustain gains of PHE applications, attracting more funding and resources, leading to better outcomes.
